Episode 23: On Joy

Joy is sometimes a choice, a perspective. How can one person get so much joy out of something that another may not even recognize?  Comedians and business experts have a lot to say about joy, and so does scripture – in this episode we look at the intersection of the 2 in this thought-provoking Thoughtful Thursday.  All shows are recorded live.

Episode 22: On The Gray Area

Some things are easy to see as black/white issues.  The gray area emerges in complex situations, moving parts, miscommunications or simply pushing to do something that really can’t be done.  It frequently isn’t malicious as much as just an easy route to take.  We know man was made with a conscience, so why isn’t this topic easier?  Today, we delve in…

Episode 21: On Margin

Margin is ”unscheduled time that you can use in whatever way refreshes you, or helps you get back on track with life”. It’s your breathing room / emergency fund / time to reflect on life. Do you have it?  Scripture has quite a bit to share including in Genesis and Mark, which we’ll explore in this episode.

Episode 20: On Worry

Does worrying actually help anything? If it doesn’t help, what can we do about it.  Sometimes, the practical application of “not worrying” is the hardest, even despite scriptural encouragement: Mathew 6:34: Therefore, Do not worry about Tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own

Episode 19: On Enough

When is enough, enough?   After you win a local competition, then it’s to regional, then to national, etc.  How about with possessions?  Cars & houses?

  • Ecclesiastes 5:10: “whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless”

Episode 18: On Connecting

All of life is connected, there are no isolated habits.  At times, it can be easy to isolate/separate different aspects of life, at least when it comes to improvement.  For example, working out = body, quiet-time = soul, business conference = work, etc.  Today, we look at how connected everything is.

Episode 17: On Wisdom

How do you “get” wisdom”? What do you do when there’s no specific guidance on a decision. Today we look at an integrated approach to wisdom.

“Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.” Proverbs‬ ‭13:20‬ ‭MSG‬

Episode 16: On Strategy

You develop a strategy because you’re being intentional – as a believer, how do we build a strategy for our personal, business & spiritual lives? In this “Thought”, we talk about characteristics of “Adaptive Leaders” and how that can shape a business & spiritual ‘strategy.’

Proverbs 16:9 : “a man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps”

Episode 15: On Offense

According to Wikipedia, “The best defense is a good offense” is an adage that has been applied to many fields of endeavor, including games and military combat. It is also known as the strategic offensive principle of war. Generally, the idea is that proactivity (a strong offensive action) instead of a passive attitude will preoccupy the opposition and ultimately hinder its ability to mount an opposing counterattack, leading to a strategic advantage. Offense is also a mindset.”
Being on offense means knowing what you stand for, being equipped, holding fast to what you know, and sharing the good news.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ESV – Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

Episode 14: On Defense

Being on defense can mean different things from a business and biblical perspective, but it’s especially interesting when the two intersect.  How do we to a better job at both?

Philippians 1:7 So it is right that I should feel as I do about all of you, for you have a special place in my heart. You share with me the special favor of God, both in my imprisonment and in defending and confirming the truth of the Good News.
